Thai Lion Air (TLA) is pursuing a reserved expansion plan this year in a move seen as a response to overcrowded skies and intensifying competition. That is a marked slowdown from last year, which saw six B737s join TLA's fleet, which reached 24 by year-end. In its latest analysis, the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation said Thailand's domestic market -- which TLA focused on in its first two years of operations (2013-14) -- has reached saturation. Domestically, TLA intends to embark on three new routes: Chiang Mai-Hat Yai, Bangkok-Khon Kaen and Bangkok-Phitsanulok. TLA is set to simultaneously launch two new domestic routes, Bangkok-Trang and Chiang Mai-Surat Thani, on Friday.
